Workshop: Mathematical approaches to (paleo-)climate sensitivity

12 and 13 November 2015 at the Conference Hotel Kontakt der Kontinenten in Soesterberg.

Organizors: Dr. A. S. von der Heydt, Prof. H. A. Dijkstra and Dr. R. S. W. van de Wal

With this workshop we want to bring together internationally leading scientists who study climate response to changes in forcing both today and during critical episodes in the geological past. The goal is to develop alternative concepts of climate sensitivity that can account for the nonlinear nature of the climate system including the presence of tipping points. By combining expertise from dynamical systems theory, climate modelling and data acquisition of past climates, new mathematical approaches will be developed that can be applied to the instrumental and geological records.

The workshop is partly funded by the NESSC (www.nessc.nl/here) and is open to the NESSC community and a number of invited scientists. Confirmed participants include Peter Ashwin, Rodrigo Caballero, Michel Crucifix, Michael Ghil, Peter Huybers, Valerio Lucarini, Heiko Pälike and Paul Valdes.

The conference fee will be 90€ and includes attendance, lunch and tea/coffee during the breaks for the two days and a conference dinner on 12 November. Accommodation can be booked at a reduced rate of 79€ for a single room (including breakfast) via the hotel (http://www.kontaktderkontinenten.nl) by using the “Corporate code” nessc15.

To subscribe, send an e-mail with personal information, affiliation and fields of interest to Dr. Anna von der Heydt (A.S.vonderHeydt@uu.nl) before July 15, 2015. Information about payment of the registration fee will follow on registration.
